Got up at 430am and remembered I needed to do arms so I wanted a warm up so I ran all I could in order to get to work on time-- 4.25 miles in 8:26AP then pushups--- 9, 11, 8, 8, 11(8 is all I could do with only 60 second break in between). I had no strength. Lack of glucose. Then I ended with 60, 30 ,30 planks. My muscles felt weak doing the plank after push ups. Worked all day yesterday and today. Foot totally the biggest let down of my running career. I have a dr. appt tomorrow to review my labs but now I am also going to have to suggest a bone scan because the pain is NEVER going away. I can't even run normally on it. I have to run on the outside of my foot!! It is my heel that is killing me. I noticed it about a week before the marathon and the night before I really felt it but I was telling myself it was just prerace "crap" so I brushed it off. I wonder if that what caused me to get more blisters as well as I purposed ran on my forefoot to avoid my heel. Seriously I am just a stupid runner. An addicted one, so that's my problem. I can't quit cold turkey. However did you POOL RUN APRIL? Elliptical will still be too pain ful for me. Even more pressure on my heel. Biking doesn't seem like it would be any better. BLAH BLAH. and its almost the holidays. all I need is to gain weight to add to my sadness.

i'm sorry julie -- injuries are not fun at all. about this time in 2009, i was in the exact same situation. i couldn't run and i couldn't cross train because everything i tried hurt my leg. i finally just gave up trying to push it and took two weeks completely off. it's not ideal, but two weeks is much less time than it takes to heal a stress fracture or another serious injury. when the body has reached its limit, it's really good about letting you know. two weeks from now it will only be november 2nd -- the holidays will just be starting! how great would it be if everything felt good again and you were running without pain? you really won't lose much at all in two weeks. i think even just one week might do wonders for you -- you trained really, really hard this summer and i think it's okay to "reset" every now and then. i am a big believer in consistency but rule #1 is health, because without a healthy body, it becomes very difficult to be consistent.

taking a short break is something i wish i would have done in 2009 -- which is why i am currently on a mini hiatus. instead i just kept running and running in pain until i could barely even walk. i was not patient at all, which only prolonged the injury. i finally had to take time off right around thanksgiving and christmas when it's really difficult to not be running since there are calories everywhere! i know it's tough -- just try to stay positive. maybe try some swimming or aqua jogging? or a stair stepper? or you could just do nothing for two weeks and just let your body rest entirely. don't worry too much about weight gain -- it will be minimal and it will come off quickly!

i truly hope your heel is okay and that it's something that can be fixed in the short term. just know i'm thinking of you. it will all be okay :)

thanks Allie. I am sure I can do this no run thing....if I can run painful marathons : D. I am trying not to get down and if I hadn't witnessed others getting through I would be worse off. I am on my way to my Dr. for lab followup. Don't know if she knows much about feet. But I am hoping now that all is BURSITIS. I am taking a steroid for five days to see if it cools down. If it does it is an inflammatory condition (bursitis or PF). If not then it is a stress fracture. After 14 hours on prednisone it has calmed down about 70 percent so hope???? but I am not running on it for at least 4 days. Once I get through the weekend, then on Monday I will move cautiously...or just sit around eating lots of dark chocolate after doing upper body all day mixed with some lower body cirucit training. ; D

I agree with everything Allie said. With that said my heart aches so bad for you Julie. I have a pool at my Condo if you want you can come down to Payson and we can pool run together.

Aw man major bummer! I hope it is not a stress fracture, but no matter what it is, I agree with Allie that now is the time to take time off. There is no marathon looming on the horizon. A few weeks off now means you may be back running before Thanksgiving and calories, and way before any spring marathon training. Your body wants rest, things have been messed up. Let it have its break so you can come back stronger than ever. My stress fractures were the best thing that ever happened to my running. Didn't feel like it then, but in hindsight, I needed a reset and needed to train smarter and learn not to overtrain.

You have both Allie and April to prove that you can come back from injury and come back even better and faster than before!

I really think it sounds like PF. I hope that is what it is, some time off will fix it and fix it pretty quickly!!! If not, we will deal with it as it comes, right???

GOOD LUCK, waiting to hear what the doctor said.

as usual my Dr. was too busy to hear about my foot. She went on and on about my lab values being off--- apparently still anemic. 5, last year, was just extremely low. My new level is still too low for her. Whatever. She said I most likely have MANY food and chemical allergies (who would have thought? already KNEW THIS) and wants me to get this test done to figure on the MAIN culprits not allowing my body to ABSORB iron and DHEA causing all my problems. Dr. Remington 3 years ago got me on my way to recovery from REACTING TO EVERYTHING IN THE ENVIRONMENT (oddly NOT animals) with his yeast free diet, probiotics and SRT (sensitivity removal therapy) but he said anytime I got better then waivered off course (ie:eating unhealthily--tons of white flour again etc....) I would get my symptoms back. He already found then that I was reacting in my GUT to: garlic, onions, orange juice, milk, chocolate, hormones, actually kind of a long list. I got better then I can get better again. Fine tuned. I have to eat wholistically again. IT IS NOT ALWAYS EASY with a husband that pays no mind to health/exercise and 3 kids. So ABOUT MY FOOT. Went to Lagoon yesterday for Frightmares. Walked for 11 hours on the DARN thing and it was still tender and worse by the close of the day but since I didn't run on it, it didn't SCREAM out in pain like it has at work the last two days. So....PF, is my thinking again....day two of steroid taper (took 15 mg today, 20 mg yesterday). I have prednisone left over from my allergic reaction to a medication I had a couple years ago, so the potency is probably not so great. I am not in a financial state to hand out money to drs. left and right so I have to investigate and self treat. BONE SCAN IS THE LAST option because I have to pay out of pocket to reach my deductible and we are at the end of the year and I am saving up for braces for Courtney with my HSA.
