20 VERY PAINFUL Miles.  Back is really bad off.  The pain then went up my spine and to my shoulders and worse than any run I can imagine (except the last two miles of the Boston Marathon in  1996).  The nerve pain won't let up.  Talked with my Bishop who is a  Dr. about an epidural steroid order.  He said I need a current MRI first.  So with my appt I have this Wednesday I will get one (different Dr.).  Melanie left me in the dust.  I didn't see her past mile 6.  I had to stop when I reached the road at mile 20.  And even stopping hurt like the dickens.  Its like my nerves have some kind of disease.  They are all on fire in my spine to my feet.  This is VERY disappointing.  I may have to give up my SGM number to my friend that did not get in.  I just can't run SGM in this much pain.  Hopefully answers are on the horizon this week with lab tests and an MRI.   My pace down was almost as slow as my pace up.  This run has a 3000 foot gain/loss.  I loved this run the first year I ran it, but then it was aided by the running club.  I was so parched with only a 16 ounce fanny pack water and two gus.  Melanie drove back up to get me from the Golf Course at Hobble Creek.  I could barely walk straight.  It is hard to even type this.  PAIN SCORE 9!!!  AP 9:52.

I am so sorry that it hurt so bad! Is it hurting 24/7 now??? Do not give up yet, maybe they will figure it all out QUICK and you can still come and run! St George is such a beautiful course, I would not give up my number for anything---no matter how slow, it is just gorgeous! Actually, it would be better slow, you might see more!

TAKE CARE!!!!

sorry to hear, julie. i really hope you can get everything figured out. the fact that you stuck it out for the full 20 while in that much pain shows your toughness.

I forgot to mention this was a trail run. No pavement and LOTS of rocks to avoid which made my back/butt scream even more. I talked with MichelleL a few months back and have avoided getting the test done until this Wednesday. My Aunt was diagnosed with AS (ankylosing spondylitis, which is what Michelle has) 1 1/2 ago after years of back and spine problems. It is highly genetic Michelle informed me. There is a gene to test for it and xray images need to be taken. Since the pain is mostly my lower back and sacroiliac joints I am a little worried this could be the problem, it has worsened as it is now CONSTANT PAIN and has traveled up my spine and sometimes my ribs, which today my ribs really hurt. At least I know Michelle got better and my Aunt is doing better. Not excited about steroid use, but they have saved me a time or two. I feel like one big ball of inflammation. What a whiner!!!! I just want to run and feel the "high" again and all I get is pain. So NOT right!!!

Not only has Michelle gotten better, but she is kicking butt again! And look at Paul Peterson go!! I am just glad that you are headed to the doctor for some answers, the pain sounds excruciating.

sorry guys but I can no longer run for I don't know how long. legs (mostly left) is useless and burning with pain constantly, toes and feet going numb. Spine aching constantly even knuckles in my hands. It looks like a no go for SGM but I will probably jog/walk it so I can stay in for the 10 year club. but I don't even feel I can do that right now. crossing fingers too cause I am getting very depressed about this.

It is definitely time to get to the bottom of this!!! The doctor is today, right???

From JulieC on Wed, Sep 08, 2010 at 15:14:44 from 71.213.99.106

Kelli- In ONE hour. at least I can vicariously run thru all my fellow bloggers workouts. wish I could vicariously keep off the weight thru the workouts too and stay in shape. I was tempted to put on my shoes and then a little voice told me to forget it for now,I could barely walk straight this morning. so I biked to do my visiting teaching-- a one mile loop or so so really nothing. I think I will try swimming again, just afraid of pool water...a germaphob!! I got too many colds after swimming but since SGM may be out why not?

From Kelli on Wed, Sep 08, 2010 at 18:13:41 from 71.219.102.155

Swimming and biking are great alternatives to running! And they burn fat big time!!

I HATE water period---pools, lakes, oceans. I can not stand getting in the water, never have liked it.

Hope the doctor can provide some answers, keep us updated!
