Ran at 9:05 at PG High School track from PG pool while kids finished up first swim team practice.  First meeting so got out too late to do a long work out but felt dragging anyway at first due to huge headache yesterday from lack of sleep.  Just couldn't get any quality sleep after Saturday night.  I might as well had stayed up after I got up at 1015 am (getting in bed at 7am).  Still trying to figure out the best way to not feel too badly after a night shift.  Boring conversation... on to running.  So I began, after two laps, to actually feel like a runner.  First mile 8:46 but last quarter 1:58 (7:52 pace).  Second mile still just gradually eased up on each 1/4.  Ended with quarter of 1:43 which felt very easy (7:06 pace) but actual mile was 7:27.  I was in the zone.  Last mile easy at 8:17 pace around track. Then had to go as kids out of showers (nice that I can see the pool from the new track).  Total miles here 3.4, then got home and ran another 4 miles starting nice and easy (loving the cool breeze and overcast) with last mile at 7:03, which felt really good.  I think that even just the one treadmill speedwork last Friday increased my leg turn over and oxygen capacity.  I usually do a 7:41 at the end and have that feel easy.  Time will tell for Saturday's race.  Still got three night shifts this week to work through.  Avg pace for 7.4 miles=  8:22.

GOOD JOB getting your run in between working nights and shuttling kids to swim team. You are FAST! I would not be able to run after working nights. AWESOME track work! May be I'll get to meet you on Sat. I HATE 5Ks...too many heavy breathers =D...way out of my comfort zone ;). Well, it'll be fun to see many running friends there though, all worth it! Hope you get some sleep this week.

I actually don't enjoy 5ks either. I do two to three a year depending on what I am doing. I always try to do this one, its inexpensive but has loads of prizes, then I do the IHC 5K at American Fork Hospital (did that before SGM a few times, but not last year, went to Lagoon). Then a Turkey Trot of 5k or 4 miles. I use it all as testing my ability for the year. Some years I run it with barely any training, boy those are tough ones, loads of heavy breathing...but see now you are well trained it should be a piece of cake for you, just step it up a notch after the big hill, you can't go wrong, you may even win a microwave or a ladder or better--I always hope for the mountain bike!!!

Can you believe a week ago I realized I may be able to run the Squaw Peak 50 miler (also this Saturday) and I seriously considered not doing the 5K and getting my friend to talk to her friend the race director as everyone was off the waiting list and some spots were not filled? I basically asked my husband 50 miler or 5K, what do you think? The answer was thought out but my body is so thankful....for now. I really want to be up in those mountains. You must run the Hope to Hobble run on August 29th that Runner's Corner puts on (22-23 miles, depending on your own garmin). Too awesome, too beautiful, difficult but rewarding, plain nature and great running friends.
