7:42 am bike ride for 20.3 miles.  Yikes turn around I was telling myself "I need a long sleeve shirt on".  Bike rides are cold if the sun isn't up.  I just pushed through the urge to turn around and kept going in the chilly air.  Then  I forgot about it as I worked out longer.    I am so glad I appreciate my life more than music.  I ride my bike without music.  I never want to not hear a car or a person beside me biking.  Seriously biking takes concentration to NOT get killed.   I felt quite safe for the most part but honestly DRIVERS scare me.  I never take for granted that they see me so  I wave or slow at any intersection even if I have the right of way.   Rode my 20 mile run route that I took everyone on back in February.  Lots of hill work for me.  AP 4:10 for 20.3 miles.  Course record : D.   Back was aching for 5 of the miles-- spasms.  I didn't stop once except for three lights only briefly-- a minute total proabably.  The air was refreshing especially in Alpine. When I start running again I will wonder why the scenery passes by me so slow.  I am getting used to 4 minute mile pace!!   Foot back in boot after massaging it.

Great job Julie. Are you going to convert to Tris?

I love this...

"I am getting used to 4 minute mile pace!"

:-)

You can never take for granted that you have the right of way, biking or running, even when you know 110% that you do. Its not worth it. Most drivers are idiots.

Bec, I thought about that a few times on my bike ride. I have only done one triathlon (nearly drowned due to FROZEN water in the Salem Pond-- not kidding they actually changed the date of it because everyone froze to death) in April 2003. What is funny is that I came in third overall (4 months postpartum) I was also riding my mountain bike, the top two were on road bikes!! :D. Just a little brag moment. Back when I was younger...ahh those were the days. Except that race freaked me out...I honestly thought I was going to drown. It hailed for our run too. I could barely change out of my wet suit, my hands and arms and well everything were frozen. No exaggeration. It was miserable. I am sure it was my "baby" fat that kept me alive and ahead of everyone :D.

Jake-- THANKS!! 4 minute miles are sweet!! And everytime I ride out of my garage I worry "I could totally biff" and be out of this life or in a worse situation. I don't like that fear. After a few miles I relax a bit. My neighbor just across the street from me was hit four years ago when a truck signaling right but turned left (witnesses that saw it happen) as she was coming down Suncrest hill in Draper. She was in a coma for a month and had a trach, jaw broken, brain damage (but miraculously healed with now only memory problems), right shoulder blade shattered. It was enough for me to see her in the hospital swollen unrecognizeable, that I could not bike for a few years. She has four kids and a wonderful husband. Seriously amazing she survived!! And then I heard several more stories after that so I am in constant look out.

The only drivers that are not idiots are the ones who are also runners and bikers! And even some of them are idiots!!!

It was chilly today even for us 9 minute per mile people!

Hey, we should've rode together today! I did about the same thing - in about the same time. I'm glad you're enjoying biking, I like it too - but like you, it scares the CRAP out of me! Especially when semis or hauling trucks barrel past me at 60+mph - I usually scream like a little girl :)
