Comment:  mentally I am NOT ready for Painter's half.  Physically?  I just don't know where I am at compared to last year since I essentially didn't run well for 8 weeks from Oct to Nov.  I kind of forgot about this half marathon and NOW it has snuck up on me.  YIKES.  I haven't done any tempos as long as I used to before such a race.  Goal is exactly 1:30.  6:52 AP.  Cross fingers.  I heard there is a 1:30 pacer.  If it is Seth Wold that would be wonderful!!

Nice run Julie! and good luck at Painters. On a side note - that is a tough call on the Riverton half. It is a tough strength course as opposed to those that shoot you out of a cannon so it may not beat you up as much. It should make the "hills" at Boston seem nice. It is looking like there may be a good group of bloggers running it though - and it is cheep.

Awesome workout Julie!! In my opinion physically you are in better shape now than you even were going into SGM. You have had some amazing workouts. So with that said be confident in your abilities and don't underestimate yourself.

From Rachelle on Tue, Jan 17, 2012 at 15:35:45 from 199.190.170.30

And I should add I think you are honestly capable of pacing 6:45. 1:28!!!! I know you can do it. :D

From JulieC on Tue, Jan 17, 2012 at 20:25:36 from 67.41.188.16

just need MENTAL STEAM Rachelle!! FOCUS :D. Thanks Chad!! I have run Riverton Half two years ago--it is a bugger for sure so not sure why I even have that up on the list-- the wind can be fierce but it sure would be a MENTAL boost if I can get a 1:31- 1:32 on that course just before Boston. I would be happy. : D

Whew, I figure you throw down a fast workout, nice going. I can't imaging doing that on a treadmill!

From Jake K on Tue, Jan 17, 2012 at 21:32:39 from 67.177.21.60

Nice workout Julie. Lots of time b/w now and Boston - you are in excellent shape, so use the race this weekend as a building block and confidence booster going into the marathon training.

Thanks everyone!! hey Jake you would think since I turn 43 in a few weeks I would have all this understanding on how to train....but nope. I am just coming to an understanding that a lot of times LESS is MORE. So today I took it so very nice and easy--- the weather was the "calm" before the storm so I just had to run outside : D.

From JulieC on Wed, Jan 18, 2012 at 11:59:13 from 207.108.176.168

btw Jake what do you think about running the Riverton 1/2 16 days before Boston?

From Jake K on Wed, Jan 18, 2012 at 12:06:27 from 155.100.226.54

I think its fine - approach it as a marathon "dress rehersal" - not a 1/2 PR type effort. 2.5 weeks out is a good time to get in the last hard tempo run.

I just looked at the elevation profile, and it seems like a really good simulator. Starts downhill, then rolling uphill, finishes downhill - just like Boston. Heck, depending on how I end up structuring my training, I'm interested in it. I've been trying to make some routes that simulate the Boston course for tempo runs - that one seems as good as anything I've come up with.

From Chad Robinson on Wed, Jan 18, 2012 at 12:11:58 from 50.73.39.89

Jake it is a good, tough, well run course that is cheep ($40) and close. It would be great to see you there. You will kill the competition (I think Walter has gone as low as 1:15ish on the course).

From JulieC on Wed, Jan 18, 2012 at 12:12:54 from 207.108.176.168

And if Riverton gets its usual wind that will mimick the off-shore winds Boston Marathon sometimes gets at the finish line. Of course if you run it, I will : D.

From Jake K on Wed, Jan 18, 2012 at 12:14:42 from 155.100.226.54

What off shore winds at Boston? 2012 is going to be the same as 2011 - gale force winds AT OUR BACKS!!! :-)

From JulieC on Wed, Jan 18, 2012 at 15:16:39 from 207.108.176.168

Jake I HOPE YOU ARE RIGHT!! tailwind would be wonderful. I ran it in 1996. It snowed 10 inches the day before, then melted. They had to bring it bales and bales of hay to cover the mud in Farmington and still runners were walking around either holding their shoes or wearing muddy shoes. Fun times!!! That was the 100th year and there were over 42,000 runners!! My number was 24,309!!
