3 by 3 miles, like last week.  Improved greatly on the in between miles even without the adrenaline rush from watching the Boston Marathon last week.  Wasn't sure I would be able to get into speedwork after doing visiting teaching all morning.  Got out at 1050am.  Started off with gloves and sweats over shorts.  Took them off at my house on the grass after the first round.

Here is the breakdown:  Set One:  1-  7:23 (uh oh hope I don't have to measure to this pace, already 35 seconds faster than last week and I always like negative splits) 2- 7:18 (yikes (40 seconds faster), 3-  6:20 (headwind but still six seconds faster).  Set two:  1- 6:50 (oh no should I slow it down? how will I get negative splits)  2-  7:03. This is getting ridiculous.  Maybe air quality better than last week with all the burning on this route going on then.  Just one small area of burning on mile 3 on all sets noticed.  Last week it was on miles 1.5 to 2.  3-  6:18  (headwind again but down hill, not steep or anything, for first 3/4 miles then uphill.  Set three:  1-  6:47 (wow still a negative split from last mile 1!!! Told self if I got a negative split here I would be able to go easy on mile two to reward myself but by the end of it I decided to try and still get a negative split but missed it by 3 seconds.  Too much to make up for at the slower beginning.  2-  7:06.  Still happy about this considering I was near the end and reaching my threshold.  Hoping to do well the last mile.  3-  6:18 (three tenths faster, wooo!!, still counts as negative I guess)  Cool down two miler at 8:25 to 8:30 pace.  Stretched and then helped kindergartener do homework and read her book from school two times.  Finally took shower and cleaned kids bathroom.  Now I am feeling the workout as I write this.  Wish I didn't have to recover working a night shift in a few hours.  C'est la vie.  Avg pace for 9 miles:  6:50!!!!!  I should end up with a doozy of a headache.  A time for miracles may give me hope.

WOW!!! You're a running machine! I assume the 3x3 was mile repeats; but didn't see any recovery in between. Was that a tempo run? AWESOME workout! YOU ARE WICKED FAST! What's your marathon pace? You are so ready for Ogden! Your next race is Ogden, right? You're AMAYHHHZING!!!! Do you work full-time? Is it at UVRMC? I used to work PRN on weekends in the ICU or IMC, always the night shifts. I was not a runner then. I wouldn't have the energy to go to work after such a super 11 miler. Hope you take a rest day tomorrow.

Smooth- yes it was a tempo run with mile repeats built in. I ran a three mile loop around my home times three(same work out as last monday except 1 1/2 miles longer cooldown). I took no break until just before mile three in all sets for just 30 seconds to drink from my gatorade and for 30 seconds after so I wouldn't have time to talk myself out of it or feel comfortable not running cause actually it felt rather comfortable at the 7 pace. Oddly. Not sure why. It may be that the 6:20 pace is too hard that 6:50 to 7 felt easy I guess. As far as marathon pace I will aim for 7:40 so 3:22 by doing a negative split, about five to 10 minutes faster the second half. I just don't know. I hope all is together on race day. Allie- I hope to hear that you get to officially rock Ogden by ripping the finish line tape.

Smooth- I forgot to answer some of your questions. Yes I work full time nights at American Fork Hospital a mile from my home thankfully. I worked at UVRMC for 16 years in the NICU, day shift for the last 10. Now starting at a new hospital last November, goodbye to seniority, night shift again sadly. So, I try my best to tough it out and figure how to fit my running in. I am faster than when I was younger and lighter- hypoallergenic diet- so perhaps the diet is what has helped me run better. I feel better. Anyway, I work mostly in level 2 nursery and admit nursery and occasionally float to UVRMC Pediatrics, NICU, and Mother/Baby. I am off to bed now. I have a hard time sleeping longer than 4 hours in a row after a night shift. My running is keeping me sane or insane as others would see it.

WOW, that was like racing two 5Ks back to back. You're amazing! You're gonna get that 3:22 or better time at Ogden.

Do you know my daughter, Larissa Larsen? She worked at UVRMC Peds for couple of years, about 6 yrs ago. She's a Nurse Practitioner now, living in Texas with 3 kids. She has worked for Pediatricians the last 6 yrs.

That hypoallergenic diet sound great. I'm all for getting and feeling better.

Smooth-I think I may have met her a few times. I am sure I would know her face. Sometimes names fade in my memory.
