so happy to have cut this race short...four miles then walked a bit then ran to about 5.2 or so and found the sheriff, no tears) first dnf and i was very calm. relieved. this has got to be my smartest running moment ever.  walking hurt, but i am masochistic and hoped for a miracle...two visits to chiropracter, one massage, two steroid injections to heel, laser to back....no relief...even with a pain md out of dezperation.  standing around the fires by myself (lost kim and stacy who i staued with at the marriott) i was wondering how i was going to persvere the pain in my foot?  boston was hard but this pain was even more severe.....i started the race with a goal to just finish at 330 then just finish....but at 0.1 miles it was clear i was not going to be canceling out "hot coals barefoot" feeling in my right heel and ankle.  i tried all my tricks to negate it....even singing out loud with my ipod music.  my first mile was a shocker--7:04.   i thought i was at a 830 pacw. i didnt have a garmin.  mine broke when i did two weeks ago.  and i didnt want a time pressure anyway.  i thought to myself...if this pain were gone this race, rain and colder temps, would have been sweet!   i just knew i was ready cardio and mentally . i just didnt get a miracle. but i m so okay with that. a nice police officer gave me a warm drive to the halfway where i cheered many runners on while i froze, being soked. but i enjoyed it. thanking volunteers along the way. seriously they rock to be out there longer than an individual runner!   i got offered a ride by a very kind man as his wife was running her first race. she came in at 2 hours at the half and we were ofc the long way to north ogden. it was so toasty warm in the truck. i was so thankful he heard my request to find a way down as the relay shuttles were far from leaving the half way point. some great conversation there. he dropped me off at my hotel which is 0.1,miles from the finish. i quickly changex and made it to the finishe line at 2:59!  saw third place gil cross and many friends after that. everyone persevered well. i was limping at the finish line and was having lots of shooting pains through my ankle. idk if it is my back...herniated disc or plantar fascitis or both.  so painful. yay, i m out of competition for the slam. a relief. i only signed up for it to get into sgm. i got in on my own anyway.   ha ha.  now i can rest. if foot heals i will run uvm but i m not going to stress about it.  st george is my focus.

I will never be able to wrap my head around how you are able to multitask so much pain. I am always amazed.

Very glad you were able to hitch a ride with the nice sheriff. :)

So sorry that you have to deal with all of this. Hope you are off to a great Sunday. :)

Sorry you raced turned out this way, I did enjoy seeing you along the way and you catching me at the end. Get better, give dr Frazier a chance. Meaning keep going he can help you. But have in mind we beat our bodies up and have for years so there is always a degree of pain you will have mine is just much much more manageable because of him. I would suggest working on streangth the next little while and no running, you can cross train if it doesn't aggravate your injury. Get better and SG here we come:)

Yes, your muscles will take a long time to remember how to hold in the proper place, I am still working on that it is a c

Yes, your muscles will take a long time to remember how to hold in the proper place, I am still working on that it is a constant battle. But the stronger I get the better my body is at holding.

Good luck Julie I hope you get it figured out so you can get back put there racing:) I hate the low iron that running brings me too. Stay on top of it. It's a constant battle for me too. I also think the extra stress of working a extra 30-40 hrs on your feet is HUGE! I am beat after hard work weeks. No doubt the extra stress of working on your feet isn't helping.

From Matt Schreiber on Sun, May 19, 2013 at 17:06:50 from 66.17.102.185

You're smart Julie. Very smart move on pulling out when you did. Such a bummer the miracle you wanted didn't happen, but it's got to be a relief knowing you can focus on getting better. Heal up good and you'll be more than ready for SG.

From Walter on Sun, May 19, 2013 at 19:24:46 from 97.48.204.207

Definitely better to suck up your pride and listen to your body. I keep thinking if I didn't flag the race SUV down what would've happened to myself. I learned my lesson. I'm glad girls are smarter then boys but I wished you were by me earlier to teach this great lesson. Great run!

Smart move Ms. Julie. See you at SGM.. or the Speedy Spaniard:) Get better!

Yes!! Heal up for SG! So proud of you for listening to your body!

From Jackie82 on Mon, May 20, 2013 at 10:17:31 from 18.189.56.67

Smart, Julie. No sense trashing your body for over 20 miles. Once you get relief from your injuries you are going to crush it!!!

From Rachelle on Mon, May 20, 2013 at 12:06:37 from 199.190.170.30

Very proud of you for being smart Julie. Hang in there, get yourself better, strength train in the off time like Josse suggested and I think you will be unstopable at SGM.
