You know when you get up from your bed and all your muscles are tight that doing the intended workout happens at a cost--either do part of it or none at all or struggle greatly to complete it.  Well I struggled (darn all  those squats and lunges!!!) then I stopped at 4 MP miles.  I felt very tired still from the string of night shifts and only 2.5 hours sleep yesterday.  I didn't mind however awaking at 5:20am to the MOST AWESOME DISPLAY of a THUNDER/LIGHTNING STORM!!!  INCREDIBLE!!  The clouds roaring by and the lightning flashing at the top of Mt. Timponogos was absolutely inspiring!!!  I so love a great storm!!!  I did go back to sleep until 9am and got my butt out the door on to my bike at 9:15am.  Road to AF rec center (3.5miles) and got on the TM for my intended 2 WU with 6 at MP of 6:58 AP.  But after having to slow for my first warmup mile due to tightness and fatigue--I forgot to eat or drink anything but a glass of water since dinner last night at 7pm.  Which dinner was the kind one should NEVER eat before a big workout---homemade Fettucini Alfredo---oooo the fat!!  then of course I ate a piece of leftover birthday cake and a couple spoonfuls of chocolate fudge frosting.  What was I thinking?  Apparently I wasn't.  I felt like a slug the first mile.  I increased the speed by .1 mph every .2 miles so as to gradually get to the pace without "freaking" my body/heart out.  A frog in the warm water routine.  Very much needed today.  I got close to the pace and realized I needed one more warm up mile to get there so I did three.  My warm up ended up being speedier this way by the last 1 mile.  When I got close I kept it at 7:03 for two miles thinking I could just do two here then two at 6:58 then two at 6:53.  But after the two at 7:03 and one at 6:58 I was losing mental ground.  I was roasty toasty in the NON-airconditioned rec center (just fans, it felt like outside, minus the sun).  I ran the last of  the four miles at 6:40 and called it good but ran the remainder three miles at mostly a 7:30 pace.  Total AP for 10 miles =  7:35.  Rode bike home.  So sticky out.  Ate a good sized breakfast then went and did upper body with Courtney.  Done.  Wiped out.  Hydration happenin'.   Salt streaks were dried up on my legs.

I thought Alfredo was the best way to carbo load before a big race? :) (I hope you watch "The Office"!)

Nice job getting those miles in, maybe not at you exact desired pace but smokin' fast in my book!!

Oh, hate the humidity as well!

Great job toughing out the workout although it wasn't what you wanted. I have been there quite a few times. Feel proud that you saw it through anyway! --And there is nothing shabby about 7:35 AP!

here is a link to a recap of the episode. http://www.buddytv.com/articles/the-office/the-office-episode-41-fun-run-11650.aspx

The story doesn't do it justice, but you can google and probably find the whole episode. The 5K episode (this one) is SO hilarious! As a gift for completing my first marathon my hubby bought me the t-shirt from this episode (their 'race shirt'). I love it!
