five hours then up.  tried to run but med side effect WAY too intense.    This reaction is hard to describe--- no adrenaline-- inability to put legs/hips into action without intense pain, drop to the floor-like intensity in the back down to the knees.  Marrow-like intensity.  so NO more prednisone for me.  Seriously this is INcompatitble with running more than an injury.  I could not lift my legs without a rebound pain intensity that if I tried to take another step I would have collapsed.  Biking uses the larger muscles so the pain doesn't come on unless I try to push the pace.  I will try biking later when the sun is up and my daughter's meet is over.  In swimming I noticed this muscle pain in the muscles between my ribs-- pulsating stabbing very uncomfortable to breath until it passes.

That sounds miserable! Hope the kids track meet went well!

That's terrible! I'm sorry you're having so much trouble. I really hope you can figure out how to get everything working smoothly again.

seriously very scary with the way things are going I may have to walk the sgm with the 5 hour pacer!! honestly...what I described is very sad...I don't get it....my muscles don't seem to be synapsing correctly...prednisone sucks. I told the dr. I had this reaction and he seemed to ignore it. I told the pharmacist before I got the med that on a similar steroid I got these massive pains in my back to my knees-- bone pain and she said I shouldn't take it and if I told my dr. about it why did he prescribe it??? you know what my dr. really was looking right at me...he just had an idea in his head for back pain and that's how he treats it....I figured since prednisone is a little different from the solumedrol I wouldn't have the same reaction but I did. I just need to not lose it in the mean time. I am very depressed about this feeling and the sleeplessness and the lack of ability this year. I no longer feel like a competitive runner and losing the desire to be one anyway. I am ranting. What do I do with my life without running? serious question here.

maybe time to try a different doctor?

From JulieC on Sun, Jul 08, 2012 at 10:56:58 from 70.56.110.75

I should be fair and say it was the PA for my doctor who was out of the office. BUT it is a good thing I know a lot about how prednisone works...this however is exactly why I don't go to drs. I know I need to go to a neuroendocrine dr. but it takes months to get in. HOWEVER I am feeling better as I started taking my DHEA supplement the last two days after reading up on how much DHEA is suppressed my prednisone in the literature--- pretty much completely and my levels were extremely low to begin with. DHEA is the powerhouse hormone. My sister started taking it and felt a heck of a lot better after I told her about it. I think it is genetic-- we don't make a lot of the steroid hormones. Early menopause etc.... okay now TOMORROW is a new day Kelli and I intend to run 5 miles as planned. I have a 12 week plan to run before SG. No hopes for PRs. Just going to do the best with what I have. I only have one 20 miler scheduled and about three 18 milers. Time starts ticking tomorrow.

oh I slept 8 hours last night.... finally!! prednisone is out of my system in two more days!!!

From JulieC on Sun, Jul 08, 2012 at 11:00:42 from 70.56.110.75

I have trust issues with DRs that go waaayyyyy back so that is why I went thru and tried to do what he said. I usually don't because I believe I know more. So....obviously I still know more!!

Julie I am sorry to hear you are going through all this. :( Let me know how things go if you really do start running again tomorrow.

Julie - I felt much the same way two years ago when I had back issues causing severe Achilles pain and pain behind my knee. I couldn't run for 4 months. I wondered if I would ever run again, didn't care how fast, just wanted to do it. Swimming/biking wasn't enough to make me happy. It's hard mentally and physically. Hang in there.
