Got my sleepless butt to the pool.  Prednisone taper madness.  Hip burning with pain and down my leg to my foot.  Swam with three other people in one lane but still swam faster than last Thursday and  I did all flip turns.  Maneuvering was tricky.  I just pretended I was in an open water swim with obstacles.  I zoned them out.  I swam 1 mile (well just over a mile as I swam 36 laps of a 25 yard pool and one mile = 1760 yards, just looked it up).  It took me 35 minutes with two stops.  I stop after the 12 and 24 laps for 30 seconds each.  Feeling strong despite my sleepless night and anxiety from the taper.  Freestyle is all about shoulder, arm and chest strength.  I barely used my legs.  They are for stability.   When I am in a 50 meter pool per length I will be faster.  Flipping over that many times and maneuvering around three other SLOW swimmers is not easy.  Did some really slow relaxing laps after my mile swim.  Honestly my mile swim felt really easy.  Not pushed at all and not out of breath!!  Forgot a swim cap again.  Wore my two piece thick tie at the neck swim suit.  Got to get a race suit so  I can glide in the water and so that my hair doesn't get tangle so badly I have got to remember a cap!!!

You're tough. I hate swimming with a passion. I think I'm so in shape but throw me in a pool and I'm sucking wind like there's no tomorrow. Points for you for cross training!

Okay, you are speedy! I can't swim fast at all, but need to get back in the pool. Today I am gonna update my blog with all my running notes, then you can look at it and give me advice. I am getting faster because of the hill work, 1% grade feels like downhill and my ap is down a whole minute! But my ap is still your walk.

remember 1 min ons/ 1min offs too!! outside not on the treadmill!! set your garmin to do under "workouts" or something of that sort. It gives you time for you warmup then you hit the lap button (it should prompt you) and beep when the minute is over for the ons and when the minute is over for the offs. Doesn't matter which order you do it but I do the ons first after the warmup. When you are done with the number of ons/offs you programmed the garmin automatically goes into cooldown. Stop it when you are done and see how you did after you reset it. : DDDD goodluck. Do this once a week for now.

Confused, do you mean run/walk as on/off?

From JulieC on Tue, Jul 03, 2012 at 19:26:07 from 207.108.176.138

No FAST for 1 minute (not all out controlled FAST) and easy pace for one minute. Start with 6- 10 and gradually get up to 20.
