Hiked the Narrows in Zions National Park.  16 miles, 13 of which is through the Virgin River.  By the end you are so excited to see one more river crossing.....and another and another!! but OH so beautiful. Plus two old fogies doing it in 9.5 hours is pretty darn good!! Me and Troy were like in the Amazing Race or Something...leap frogging 20-something year old pairs.

Ran on track at my daughters soccer practice.   First two mile jog. Then I did 4 x 400s with no watch. It sucked.  I am so fat and out of shape. I am 10 pounds heavier than last year. NOT COOL!!  Depression and menopause a bad mix...and cancer (my mom).  Finished with a one mile jog.  So glad no watch.

Totally on the fly half marathon.  Utah Valley.  Texted Melanie last night and she was running it (not racing) so decided to drive with her to the start and run it with her. We met at the finish and drove to the start in my car (better than catching a 430am bus, we got to start at 5:40am).  She was suffering from a leg infection so was going easy (her easy is still faster than my out of shape pace).  I being out of shape had no interest going her easy pace.  The run on white concrete was hard enough on my muscles in my back from lack of training. We warmed up running from my parked car uphill to the start 1/2 mile really easy.  I slowed last three miles of race. Would have been 1:36:xx had I kept up my pace but with medication and no training I was dizzy from the first 10 miles under 7:30 pace avg pace.  Ended at 7:33 average pace for 13 miles, turned to the left to where my car was parked as soon as my garmin beeped 13 miles.  1:38:13.  So would have slid right under 1:39 had I gone through the shoot.  Lots of work to do if  I can heal my brain.

one mile with Amber and Fiona (and later Ashlyn) at 9:00 pace.  Then I left them to practice soccer while I ran to mouth of canyon a mile a way and ran up two and fast down for two and one easy back.  First three avg was 8:41.  Next two avg was 6:35.  Last mile was 7:48.  SOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOTTTTTT at 10am in the canyon!!   holy heart attack running up that thing.  I had to find a place to walk down to the river in order to pour water over my head and survive the two down hill miles.  First speed work down hill.   Not awesome but legs still tender from Saturday and I am still an old fat lady.  DIET SO HAPPENING!!!

Avg pace 8:05.  last mile I picked it up a little so helped my AP. It was 7:23.    HOT HOT HOT.  Gotta stop with these 10am runs!!!

eye of the tiger repeat.  23:13 to top from house going past sanfords house.   Ran on trail coming back.  So miss the days running was less well known and I roamed the trails on my own.   I guess a pioneer to running on the canal before it was a trail.  Lots of good memories.   Easy miles.

The BEAST (eye of the tiger hill) 2.5 miles steep uphill.  22:48 from my house rounding up by Harrison's first.  Last Thursday it took me 23:13.  Left later today so less shade and oh my heat!!  I don't stop at the top.  I continue past the block of lined trees and loop around them and head back down to Canal Trail. Take some water there (so luke warm) and head on out the trail until I can cross Canyon road where the road goes to the Timp Temple.  I like coming back this way as it is usually shaded from the mountain side.  NOPE not at 9:30am.  I also like the gradual decent this way.   I headed down 1300 west back home.  8:15 ap.

1:50 pacer for the midnight half which starts at 10pm (try to beat midnight I guess :D).   Ran all 8 min pace miles til mile 9 with one girl (ended up second place) and third place girl we picked up after the turn around at mile 7.  I didn't mean to go faster than pace that is just the pace that was nice and easy....but it was super hot!!  85 degrees at the start and muggy. No wind and no cool spots.  Just brief warm (less hot) spots.  I guess it was pacer slow down body strategy because after mile 9  I got cold chills like I was dehydrated or had heat stroke and my breathing became labored. Luckily it was when I was planning on slowing to 9 min pace what I didn't plan on  was how HARD IT WAS TO EVEN KEEP THAT PACE!!! mile 11 was a 9:30. I had to stop and walk to catch my breath.  My right leg cramped up at mile 12 after I tripped on the trail (fell off the side actually).  It was dark as I forgot my headlamp (I signed up for this Thursday and had lots going on friday, competition soccer for my girls).  I arrived at the race at 945pm.    And off we went about two minutes until 10pm.  The trail was bumpy from concrete lifting from tree roots.  It was like jump running to miss them at times.  I knew the route as I lived over there and used to 10 years ago run it all the time!!  Some new additions with the tunnels but all in all the same but the darkness was the tough part. It was eerie in spots.  So glad Mick ran by me with her headlamp (21 years old she ran it in 1:43:57).  I felt it was stifling. She said she loved running in warm weather.    Anyway, with the six tunnels on the way out and then the same six on the way back our garmins read the course shorts (12.87) as it can't pick up in the tunnel.  Because of that I thought I was on pace for 1:50 but actually ran faster in 1:48:11.    So today when I write this (Monday) it turns out that my leg cramp really is just my back (scaitica to the MAX!!, probably reinjured herniated disc), when I fell off the curb.  It is quite painful in my back radiating down my butt and hamstring to my foot burning on the bottom.  Icing it.  Motrin too.
